The plum garden that you can see now is the garden with plum blossom varieties of our park - Plum Garden. Plum Garden was built in 2004, covering an area of 600 square meters, planting more than 300 plum trees with over 20 varieties, mainly including Flowering Mume. In spring, plum blossom is competing for fragrance and beauty, and tourists come here to admire plum blossom one after another. In 1982, Nanjing determined plum blossom as the city flower. Since 2001, Lishui County Government and Nanjing Municipal Government have jointly held China Nanjing International Plum Blossom Festival, which combines the custom of having an outing and admiring plum blossom and the tourism and cultural activities in the new era. The festival activities are becoming more and more popular, and more and more tourists come here to admire plum blossom, with hundreds of thousands of people in the peak season.

In Plum Garden, the most important purpose is to admire and taste plum blossom. As the ancients said, plum has four virtues: sprouting represents the renewal of all things (Yuan), flowering represents that everything goes well and smoothly (Heng), fruiting represents that it’s favorable everywhere (Li), and maturing represents a successful life (Zhen). The four noble words, Yuan, Heng, Li and Zhen, are used to evaluate plum, which is not common in many flowers. The best time for plum blossom is when it is ready to blossom, so it is best to admire plum blossom before and after Insects Awaken every year. The types, flower types and plant types of plum blossom are different. Therefore, in order to be intimate with plum blossom, we should “know three things”: the first is to know the color, the second is to know the shape and the third is to know the fragrance.

The first is to know the color: plum blossom has many colors, including purplish red, pink, light yellow, light green, pure white, etc., of which green and ink color are the most rare and precious. “Red Plum” has beautiful flower shape and strong fragrance; “Lyu’e” has white flowers and green sepals, and the whole plant reflects light green; “Yudie” has double snow-white petals with a pleasant fragrance; “Purple Plum” can be divided into single-petal and double-petal plums, and the double-petal is dark red, which does not become light when withering, and the tree property is similar to rosewood; “Gongfen” has white flowers with slight red, soft and elegant. Tens of thousands of plum trees are planted, some as bright as the morning glow, some as white as snow, and some as green as jasper, forming a spectacular scene of plum sea and clouds. What we see now is “Lyu’e”. In front of us, this kind of plum blossom is called “Nanjinghong”, which is the main cultivar of Plum Garden. What we see now is “Jiangmei”. In front of us, this kind of plum blossom is called “Yudie”, and this one is “Zhushamei”.

The second is to know the shape: the beauty of plum lies in its horizontal, oblique, curved and sparse shape, if the plum is straight, it has no posture; if the plum is dense, it has no form; if the plum is regular, it has no scenery; and if the plum is flat, it has no fun. The beauty of plum also lies in its ancient, elegant, vigorous and thin shape, the bark of plum is dark with many rough lines, and its branches are vigorous and rugged. It has a charm of free and easy and a kind of masculine beauty as if having experienced many vicissitudes and being powerful and unyielding.

The third is to know the fragrance: plum is not only beautiful in shape and color, but also in fragrance. The fragrance of plum is thick but not gorgeous, cold but not light. It has a unique fragrance, clear and elegant, which has been called the faint fragrance by the literati in the past dynasties and very harmonious with the elegant style pursued by them. In the plum admiring season, a fine taste of plum fragrance has the effect of refreshing, relieving fatigue and clearing qi, just like “the plum blossom admirer walks among flowers, and the flowers are close to their sleeves as if the fragrance comes from the steps.”

Plum blossom braves snow and frost and dares to be the first. Since ancient times, many people with lofty ideals have compared their will and mind with plum blossom’s image and temperament, and cultivated their own character and sentiment with plum blossom’s temperament and spirit. It is enough to show that the charm of plum blossom can cultivate one’s moral character and sentiment.

Do you see this plum? It was planted by PU Cunxin, a famous Chinese drama actor. His hometown is Lishui. He planted this plum on the land, expressing his love for his hometown. Please see this plum, which is the plum blossom that Vice Premier HUI Liangyu and Former Director of the National Tourism Administration SUN Gang admired. When they saw such beautiful plum blossom, the enthusiasm of Fujiabian people and their spirit of striving forward, they affirmed the existing achievements of our park and made a long-term prospect for the future construction and development of the park.

Our Plum Garden not only enriches the contents of the plum garden scenic spot, but also is a miniature of the Meihua Mountain in Nanjing, where tourists can appreciate the profound plum culture and be edified with the spirit of plum personification.
